Lisa Wright has over 30 years of full time professional dog training experience. Before moving to Athabasca, she owned Freedom K-9 College which she operated for 12 years. Freedom K-9 College was a highly successful training facility specializing in pet dog training and positive instruction. Located in Edmonton Alberta, the school offered instruction to an average of 100 dogs and their families per week.
Lisa has developed many innovative techniques for training their dogs and their owners in a positive manner and has enjoyed sharing these techniques with other trainers over the years.
She is a popular speaker, having given seminars on positive dog training techniques in Canada, the United States, and Europe. She was a member of the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT) for over 15 years and served on their board of directors for three years.
Lisa was fundamental in bringing the sport of Rally Obedience to Canada and is a retired APDT Rally Obedience judge.
Her dogs have had numerous titles and wins in conformation, obedience, flyball, agility and all breed herding. Most recently she has been bitten badly by the sheepdog world and enjoys training her Border Collies for competition at ISDS style sheepdog trials. She is a Calgary Stampede and Canadian National Championship finalist. Her dogs have numerous Open trial wins. She is past president of the Canadian Border Collie Association.
She shares her home with her husband Travis, a growing number of sheep, and a small pack of dogs who work along side her on a daily basis.
While Lisa is retired from helping the general public with basic obedience and sport training, she still enjoys helping others who need special dogs for interesting jobs. She can be reached at [email protected]
